Join the Andover Wheelers

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already an experienced cyclist there is plenty to be gained by joining Andover Wheelers Cycling Club. You’ll have the company and support of like minded people who enjoy the benefits of a healthy outdoor activity. There’s a year round programme of events with the opportunity to try different aspects of cycling. As a beginner you’ll learn skills and road craft by riding with other club cyclists. You’ll also discover parts of the countryside you probably didn't know existed and you’ll certainly become much fitter as a result.

If you’re already a competent cyclist then the Wheelers gives you the chance to develop your abilities further, tackling more adventurous rides with other enthusiasts. We are affiliated to many governing bodies, which will enable you to participate in road racing should you wish to do so. There are many club members who will be on hand should you require any information or help finding events to enter.

Andover Wheelers offers a great deal to riders of all ages and abilities. Our members enjoy a friendly social environment in our weekly Saturday club rides, training sessions and general discussions to suit all comers. Some of our members are cycling enthusiasts who love to be able to discuss their passion with other members at a social and recreational level.  Other members train hard to ride hard.

The Wheelers offers something for everyone.

So, why join a cycling club, what are the benefits?

  • You will find a likeminded group who have knowledge and experience of pretty much all aspects of cycling.

  • Don't under estimate the social aspect, the miles fly by quicker when you are in a group, you get to visit cafes you didn't know existed, you can chat about cycling, lycra and leg shaving and not get weird looks.

  • You will improve your technique for sportives or racing - drafting, bit and bit, climbing, sprints for the 30's, improve your fitness riding with a group and pushing yourself.

  • A number of the club members ride local, national and international sportives and will be able to give advice on training, preparation and which sportives offer what challenges.

  • You will see new roads and routes around Andover with fantastic scenery, it has to offer.

  • The club is affiliated to British Cycling, and so you will get an introductory discount when joining them. We encourage members to join BC and take advantage of the numerous benefits, even if you do not want a race licence.

  • There are years of cycling experience at all levels available to give members advice to help you improve.

  • There can be safety in numbers and so there is a school of thought to suggest we are safer riding on the roads in a group than solo.

  • There is always someone willing to help fix mechanical issues and able to provide / sell / buy bits and bobs.

  • It can be more fun when riding events and sportives to be part of a group, share travelling and help each other out.

  • Race as part of a team (only if you want to).

  • You will be able to buy and wear distinctive club kit at very competitive prices.

All in all, the Andover Wheelers is a friendly club, organised by cyclists for cyclists, and aims to promote and encourage cycling for fitness, enjoyment and for sport.
