Time trialling involves trying to cover a set distance in the lowest possible time. Distances vary with the standard races are held over 10, 25, 50 and 100 miles. Events are also held over other distances on sporting courses covering quiet circuits.
Club promoted cycle races in this country usually have 60 to 80 starters sorted into fields based on ability. They are held both on closed circuits and on the open road. The objective in a road race is to be the first person over the line.
Cyclocross is a very specific type of bike racing. For the most part, the course is off-road but there are sometimes portions of pavement included in the course. You can expect to encounter grass, mud, gravel and a whole host of other assortments and combinations.
